Our Water. Our Future. Three million people and thousands of species rely on clean water from the Cumberland River Basin in Kentucky and Tennessee, one of the top three most biodiverse regions in the world. Our mission is to enhance the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries through action, education and collaboration.
We work on root problems of water pollution, both urban and rural. Our goal is to give people the tools to be smart, impactful stewards of their watershed and to constructively partner in policy planning with government agencies.
Our various initiatives revolve around four main pillars: Stream Restoration, Urban Stormwater, Working Lands and Engagement & Education. Much of the success of these pillars is powered by a dedicated (and growing!) brigade of volunteers and we are always looking for more! Volunteer opportunities include stream clean-ups both on foot and aboard kayaks, tree plantings through Root Nashville, rain garden maintenance and our popular Adopt-A-Stream self-led program. Our volunteer opportunities are open to all -- whether you are an individual, community group, corporation, church and/or religious organization, fellow non-profit, we welcome all and provide everyone the education and tools for success in protecting our watershed.
